Semaglutide Side Effects

As with any medical treatment, side effects may occur although they are often mild and in many cases resolve or lesson over time. Commonly reported side effects may include:

Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Constipation
Acid reflux
Abdominal
Fatigue
Dehydration

If you are taking Semaglutide and experience any of these side effects, please speak with your provider. Some patients may benefit from taking an anti-nausea medication if symptoms are bothersome. In effort to help reduce side effects, dose adjustments may also be recommended and should be discussed with your provider as well. Other methods to help reduce side effects may include:

Eat smaller meals more frequently
Avoid lying down within 1-2 hours after eating
Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day
Take a daily fiber supplement if constipation occurs
Reduce alcohol intake

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will I need to take it and how long will I be on Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a once-weekly injection with dose increases every 4 weeks. Length of treatment will depend on individual needs and weight loss goals, but 6-9 months is average.

Will I gain all the weight back once I stop the medication?

Once your goal weight is obtained, we recommend staying on a lower maintenance dose for a few months. This is a great time to work on solidifying those long-term healthy habits.

Can anyone take Semaglutide?

You should not take Semaglutide if you have Type 1 Diabetes, a history of diabetic ketoacidosis, family history of thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia, kidney problems, a history of pancreatitis, are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant or are nursing.

What if I’m scared of needles?

During your initial appointment, we will demonstrate and teach you how to administer your injections. We can even teach a friend or significant other how to as well. You may also choose to have your weekly injection administered by one of our medically trained staff members in clinic.
